RE: Where to camp in B.C.????????

A lot of folks do not quite understand the fundamental difference between Canadian (common) law and US (constitutional) law. As I understand it ( NOT a lawyer but a dual citizen) in US if there is not a law (or sign)specifying NO - you can do it! In Canada it is different - unless there is a law (sign in this case)saying you can - then don't.
So travellers - pay attention to when you cross a political boundary!

RE: Glacier, Banff,Jasper visit in June

Make your tally of National Parks 5 by going from Glacier (east side) north into Alberta to Waterton N.P. and then from Banff NP - Lake Louise cg ( this cg is the most central from which to explore) take a day tour of Yoho NP - Emerald lake and Takkakaw falls at least.
Coming out of Waterton, at Pincher Creek go west about 5 miles and north on Highway 22 to Cochrane and west on #1 (the Trans Canada Highway). Or turn at Logview on #40 to tour through Kananskis Country to hook up with the TCH.
Yes - be prepared for some lesser road closures (as in not-yet-cleared) for snow in June anywhere in the Rocky Mountain west.
PM me anytime forr more detail.

RE: National Parks, Are visitors paying....

I'm not sure how to define "too expensive" considering all the cost increases we all face in our daily lives.
As an ex employee of Banff NP I can attest that as far as operations they are drastically under funded! I'm also not sure how much of the entry fee actually goes to that indivifual park for their operations or does it go into th national general fund. Maybe the report will expose that?
For my Canadian friends I can recommend a couple of great books dealing wih regular operations of the Warden Service of your National Parks: Men for the Mountains by Sid Marty; A Grand and Fabulous Notion by Sid Marty and his latest called Switchbacks. Also try Close Calls on High Walls by Mike Schintz.

RE: New Mexico RT 64

It is a fine road all the way. Just (last month) came east from Farmingtom to Chama - road as in good shape. If you don't have agood reasom to go to Taos here is a beautiful-drive alternative for you. At Walsenburg turn west over laVeta pass ( one of the easiest in CO to Alamosa. Turn south on 17 to Antonito and continue on 17 over Cumbres Pass to Chama and pick up 64 there. Trees should be leafing out by now! That also os a pretty easy pass to pull.
But if you want to get to Taos - take the above route to Antonito and turn south on 285 into NM then over to Taos on 64 at Tres Piedras. Avoid the boring I25 as much as possible (my not-so-humble opinion).

RE: Glacier National Park BC

I believe a couple of the posters are confusing the Canadian Glacier National Park, located in BC west of Yoho NP with the Waterton-Glacier National Park, ( The International Peace Park) which is partially in the US and partially in Canada. I believe the original poster is referring to the Canadian Park.
skipandchar - pay attention (LOL) - usually you are pretty 'right-on"

RE: I70 Denver to 191 Moab 160 Tuba City

You should hsve no problems with your "C" on that route. Freeway only on I 70 the rest are good 2 lane roads with passing lanes on the few grades that need them.
One suggestion - rathe than staying on I 70 to 191 watch for the turn off for UT 128 - the river road toMoab. Very pretty road tha t drops down to and follows the Colorado River to Moab - the exit from I 70 in Utah is #202.
At Monument Valley be sure to stop long enough to take one of the guided tours so you really can appreciate the "Valley". Merely driving along the edge on 163 is just a teaser! Note that you take 163 (not 160) just south of Bluff on 191.
264 from Tuba City to Ganado is a great road. be sure to stop and absorb some Hopi info . at the Hopi culture center. Also - at Ganado stop at the Hubbell trading post National Historic Site. At Ganado I recommend you stay east on 64 through Window Rock - the navajo nation Capitol City, then south to Gallup.
From there where are you headed? PM me for more details. We made that trip on our annual migration to AZ several times - latest was last October.

RE: Lake Dillon, Colorado

Most of the US Forest Service campgrounds (at least the major ones) in the country are now being managed by various private companies under the administartion's privatization program. In USFS region 2 (CO and WY0 the cgs are managed by Thousand Trails management company - a branch of TT.
USFS budgets have been so severely cut in recent years that they do not have personnel to take care of the campgrounds. One person in each office now 'supervises' the contractor. Personaly I think this is a proverbial catch-22 disaster. The contractor makes a good profit - money that should go back to the local FS district office that seems to get less and less budget every year.
MODERATOR - this could lead to a political discussion that should not be allowed to contatnue.
I just wanted to clarify the question about TT.

Whoever told you that is just plain wrong! We have crossed that borderalmost every year - sometimes 2 or 3 times - since 1991 - always with propane on the fiver and a full jerry can of gasoline in the bed of the truck. NEVER been questioned!

RE: How does the hot water heater fill?

Just one more word - of caution. Do NOT turn on the water heater (electric)until you are sure the water heater tank is full. Otherwise you will burn out the element (on electric). Gas heater wil not light unless there is waterin the tank

RE: Mesa Regal

WEll - as I understand it - under their zoning etc. they (eg Mesa Regal) must keep at least 20% of their spaces open for travelling rvers (ie. not parkmodels). And technically park models are RVs - taxed/licensed as such.
Now - just what is wrong with being in a mix of park models? Virtually all pm owners are still RVers or were rvers before they opted for the increased space, and for many - the ease of migrating back and forth - with out hauling everything.
There is not and should not be any 'conflicts' between pm owners and mobile rv owners. A lot of us own and use both!

I agree with Bentarrow - 134 is an easy pull. The so-called "River Road" from Kremmling to Bond is gravel/dirt and I would not want to pull a big rig over it.
